EXPRESS ENTRY SYSTEM
This program is for those who wish to Immigrate as a skilled worker to Canada. Express Entry is an online system that is use to manage applications for permanent residence from skilled workers. Express Entry manages applications for three economic immigration programs:
FEDERAL SKILLED WORKER PROGRAM
This program is for skilled workers with foreign work experience who want to immigrate to Canada permanently. This program has minimum requirements for:
- skilled work experience
- language ability
- education
You must meet all the minimum requirements to be eligible.
FEDERAL SKILLED TRADES PROGRAM
Candidates, who are planning to move to Canada and settle permanently under federal skilled trade program, must
- meet the required language levels for each language ability
- have at least 2 years of full-time work experience in a skilled trade
- meet the job requirements for that skilled trade
- have a
- valid job offer of full-time employment or
- certificate of qualification in that skilled trade issued by a Canadian provincial, territorial or federal authority
CANADIAN EXPERIENCE CLASS
If you are planning to settle in Canada under Canadian experience class you must
- meet the required language levels needed for your job for each language ability
- have at least 1 year of skilled work experience in Canada
- have gained your work experience by working in Canada while under temporary resident status with authorization to work
PROVINCIAL NOMINEES PROGRAM
Immigrate by being nominated by a Canadian province or territory. Each province and territory has its own “streams” (immigration programs that target certain groups) and requirements. For example, in this program stream, provinces and territories may target:
- students
- business people
- skilled workers
- semi-skilled workers
Provinces and territories can also recruit candidates from the Express Entry pool through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) to meet local labor market needs.

QUEBEC-SELECTED SKILLED WORKERS
The Quebec skilled worker program is the separate immigration program of the Quebec province in Canada for skilled workers who want to become permanent residents of Canada and live in Quebec. Quebec has a special agreement on immigration with the Government of Canada. The province has its own rules for choosing immigrants who will adapt well to living there.
ATLANTIC IMMIGRATION PILOT
Immigrate by graduating from a school or working in New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, or Newfoundland and Labrador. The Atlantic Immigration Pilot helps employer hire qualified candidates for jobs they haven’t been able to fill locally. These candidates can be overseas or living in Canada temporarily.
START-UP VISA
Immigrate by starting a business and creating jobs. Canada’s Start-up Visa Program targets immigrant entrepreneurs with the skills and potential to build businesses in Canada that:
- are innovative
- can create jobs for Canadians
- can compete on a global scale
Do you have an innovative business idea? If you can get support for your idea from one of the designated organizations, you may be able to immigrate to Canada.
SELF-EMPLOYED
Immigrate as a self-employed person in cultural or athletic activities. The Self-employed Persons Program allows people to immigrate to Canada permanently as a self-employed person.
If you’re interested in this program, you must:
- have relevant experience in cultural activities or athletics and
- be willing and able to make a significant contribution to the cultural or athletic life of Canada
RURAL AND NORTHERN IMMIGRATION PILOT
Smaller Canadian communities supporting their local economy through immigration. Pilot opens to permanent resident applicants later in 2019. The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot is a community-driven program. It’s designed to spread the benefits of economic immigration to smaller communities by creating a path to permanent residence for skilled foreign workers who want to work and live in one of the participating communities.
AGRI-FOOD PILOT
Immigrate by working in specific agri-food industries and occupations. The Agri-Food Pilot helps address the labor needs of the Canadian agri-food sector. The pilot provides a pathway to permanent residence for experienced, non-seasonal workers in specific industries and occupations. It will run until May 2023.
